Editor’s Corner: The Changing Realities of Retail

kelly-short

Few things in retail are certain. But one thing you can count on is that it will always keep you on your toes. From new products to new trends to new issues to address, change is always in the air. In large part, that’s why we write Retail News Insider each month—to keep you up-to-date and informed. It’s also why we’ve focused the third Retail Perceptions report this year on one of the biggest problems retailers are facing today: security breaches.

From Target to Neiman Marcus to Michael’s, the headlines of late have been full of reports of major retailers being affected by breaches that have potentially exposed the personal and financial information of tens of millions of consumers. We know that retailers’ reputations take a hit when these breaches happen, does that actually affect consumers shopping behaviors? The results of our latest survey answer that question with a resounding yes. But exactly how and to what extent might surprise you. You can check out some of the results—and get insights on what retailers can do to mitigate the effects of these breaches—on page 9.

As always, the rest of the issue is also packed with information and insights to help you better understand and perform in today’s ever-changing retail environment. I hope you find it informative, enjoyable and useful.

All the best,
