One Sizzling Summer

Well, it has certainly been a hot summer here in the mid-west as we’ve experienced above normal temperatures and below normal rain fall. Through the heat though, EMI team members have been resilient and determined as always performing events for Meijer both in and outside of the store. I am grateful for our team’s hard work and dedication that continues to drive value to our customers.

As many students embark on a new journey, in a new grade this school year, we too are embarking on a new era at EMI. Meijer is using our services in more unique ways, and our vendor partners are seeing greater levels of performance. Our Sales Advisors have had an opportunity to work unique and elaborate Community Outreach events, including the summer concert series at Frederik Meijer Gardens. And with the addition of the Home Grown pilot program and the expansion of the Perishable Program, we are in a great position for expansion and growth.

While we see many positive aspects to our business this year, we should never become complacent with our position. For everything we do, we should always ensure that we keep two key attributes in mind: First, the “customer first” approach should be taken by keeping our services and actions relevant to the customer’s business and second, we must provide high quality standards in our services that are sustainable and indispensable.

I personally am excited for our team and the future. You have all been making a tremendous contribution to the company, which also represents growth and career opportunities. We will recognize individuals at the end of the year with the newly announced “Pioneer Award”. This will be awarded to individuals that reflect the following attributes:

• The ability to take risks and get out of their comfort zones
• Show insight and creativity for business solutions and new business opportunities
• The ability to see our business from the eye of the customer for relevance
• Possess leadership capabilities with a total “can do” positive attitude
• Effectively communicate and reflect a relentless passion for the success of our business

As we move into the busy back half of the year, we know that the temperatures will cool down, but our business activity will heat up. I look forward to a successful second half of the year and sincerely appreciate all that you do.
