Editor’s Corner: The Ever-Evolving Shopping Experience

As August rolls in, our TVs and newspapers are filled with ads for back-to-school shopping. A shopping trip this time of year became tradition in my family. The outing was always a fun adventure with my mom and my aunts—something I looked forward to every year!

Of course, the shopping experience is a little different these days. When I was growing up, about the only “high-tech” feature we had in stores was the occasional escalator to ride up and down. Now, retailers are offering ever-more exciting technology to enhance the shopping experience in meaningful ways—like the augmented reality apps you’ll read about in this month’s Market Watch feature.

We also have tips for Sales Advisors on capitalizing on the more routine elements of back-to-school shopping, like stocking up on supplies for lunches and easy dinners. Some of those items might even be the increasingly popular functional foods hitting shelves today, which we explore in our latest Trending Tastes story.
